Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Plymouth State University baseball team split a pair of games against St. Joseph's University Brooklyn to kick off its spring trip at the Myrtle Beach College Baseball Spring Training on Saturday night.
 
The Panthers lost the opener by a 9-2 margin but rebounded in the nightcap for a 14-7 win to hand interim head coach Ryan McIntosh his first career victory.
 
Plymouth State moves to 1-3, while the Bears are also 1-3.
 
The Basics:

• Game 1: Plymouth State 2, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 9
• Game 2: Plymouth State 14, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 7

How it Happened (Game One):

• The Bears plated a run in the bottom of the first, but sophomore Danny Quinn (Holliston, Mass.) tripled and scored in the top of the second to tie things at 1-1.
• St. Joseph's came back with three runs in the bottom half, though, to regain the lead, 4-1.
• Sophomore Scooter Summa (Ellicott City, Md.) singled and came around to score in the top of the third to cut the margin to 4-2, but the Bears erupted for four runs in the bottom of the frame.
• St. Joseph's tacked on another run in the fifth to account for the final score.

By the Numbers (Game One):

• Summa reached base three times, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk. He added a steal and scored a run.
• Quinn tripled and scored, while junior Luke Sokolski (Waterford, Conn.) and senior Nick Healey (Campton, N.H.) both singled.
• Senior Bryan McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) and junior Jackson Curtis (Jefferson, N.H.) worked walks.
• Senior Bobby Cliche (Stratham, N.H.) took the loss after pitching into the third inning.
• Sophomore Jason Smith (Charlestown, Mass.) struck out four and allowed just one run in relief.

 
How it Happened (Game Two):

• The Bears jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first but Sokolski walked, stole a base and came around to tie the game in the bottom half.
• Junior Joshua Welsh (East Lyme, Conn.) singled and later came home on McGrath's RBI groundout to give PSU a 2-1 lead in the third.
• PSU sent 11 men to the plate in a seven-run fourth. Sophomore Owen Baum (Saint Michaels, Md.) ripped a two-run double, McGrath followed with an RBI single and Sokolski plated two with a triple as the Panthers pushed the margin to 9-1.
• The Bears came right back with six runs in the fifth to pull within 9-7.
• Plymouth State put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth.

By the Numbers (Game Two):

• Sokolski went 2-for-4 with a single, triple and walk, three runs scored and three RBI from the leadoff spot.
• Senior Alex Rives (Gilford, N.H.) walked three times and scored twice, while Quinn finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two runs scored and two runs driven in.
• Welsh chipped in with a single, two runs and an RBI.
• Freshman Tyler Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) walked four times and scored twice from the nine spot in the order and Curtis stole four bases in the game.
• Senior Trey Parker (Meriden, N.H.) got the start.
