PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top returner from the Plymouth State University wrestling team made an appearance in the first New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Individual Rankings, the organization announced on Friday.
Graduate student
Chase Anestis (Belmont, N.H.) is ranked second at 165 pounds. Anestis is coming off a fantastic season in which he finished 31-4 with 14 pins to claim All-NEWA Honorable Mention, narrowly missing out on a spot at the National Championship Tournament.
Needing a top three finish to qualify for NCAAs, Anestis battled through an intense third-place match. The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 through the end of regulation and the score remained tied through the sudden victory period, with Anestis ultimately falling by one point via riding time in the tiebreak period.
A four-time place finisher, Anestis won the Williams Open, finished second at the Ted Reese Invitational, and took sixth at the Roger Williams Invitational, in addition to his fourth place showing at regionals.
Head coach
Ryan Carr begins his third season atop the program. PSU opens the year Nov. 8 at the Roger Williams Invitational.
