PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the fourth straight week, freshman middle hitter Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) has been recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) as the Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
 
McKay continued her impressive debut season with another strong performance at the net, averaging 2.43 kills per set while hitting .270, and adding four blocks and five aces as the Panthers picked up road wins over Rivier and WestConn.
 
She pounded 10 kills, along with three blocks and two aces, to help Plymouth State improve to 2-0 in the LEC with a 3-1 win at WestConn on Saturday. In Wednesday's sweep of the Raiders, McKay tallied seven kills (.313), three aces, and one block.
 
McKay currently leads the conference in solo blocks (29) and total blocks (52), ranks second in blocks per set (0.87), fifth in attack percentage (.276), eighth in total kills (141), and 11th in kills per set (2.35). The Panthers have now won 10 straight matches and stand at 12-4 overall, sitting in a three-way tie atop the LEC standings.
 
Plymouth State returns home for a pair of conference matches this week, hosting rival Keene State on Wednesday (Oct. 8), before welcoming VTSU Castleton to Foley Gymnasium on Saturday (Oct. 11).
