PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) has been selected as the Plymouth State University Female Athlete of the Month for October, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard.
After flirting with the first sub-23-minute 6k in the history of the women's cross country program in September, Karow shattered the mark at the Keene State Invitational on Oct. 4. Her time of 22:42.40 set a program record by more than 18 seconds, good for a 28th-place finish and helping Plymouth State to a 14th-place team result.
At the ultra-competitive Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 18, Karow turned in another outstanding performance, cruising through the 6k course in 23:09.20. The lone Panther competing in the varsity race – a field that featured 16 nationally ranked teams, including each of the top five in the country – Karow's time was good enough for 141st among nearly 270 runners.
Karow notched another stellar performance at last weekend's Little East Conference Championship, where she clocked a 22:49.00 to finish fourth, aiding the Panthers in capturing the conference title while earning All-LEC First Team honors for the first time.
Karow now owns the top five 6k times in program history. Four have come this fall, including the top two in two of the last three races.
Plymouth State heads to the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship at Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Nov. 15.
