PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Several Plymouth State University student-athletes and the women's cross country coaching staff were among those honored when the Little East Conference (LEC) released its cross country major awards winners on Friday.
Head coach
Alice Field and her staff were named the LEC Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Panthers to their second conference title last weekend. Additionally, sophomore
Noah Francis (Bethlehem, N.H.) and junior
Abby Bergeron (Essex, Vt.) were selected to the LEC Sportsmanship Teams.
All-Conference and major individual awards were announced following the completion of the LEC Championship meet last Saturday, where freshman
Emma Talon (Southington, Conn.) was recognized as the LEC Women's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Year. Junior
Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) earned All-LEC First Team honors, while Talon joined freshman
Madison Geddes (Penacook, N.H.), sophomore
Mia Sweeney (Plymouth, Mass.), and Bergeron on the Second Team.
On the men's side, Francis and senior
Max Goodman (South Salem, N.Y.) earned All-LEC First Team honors, while junior
Angelo DeLuca (Lynnfield, Mass.) claimed Second Team recognition after posting a significant personal record.
The women's team captured its second conference championship, edging Keene State by six points. Karow clocked the second-fastest time in program history to finish fourth, while the other four point-scorers each set personal bests. All five scorers earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 14.
The men's team also impressed, finishing as runner-up – just six points behind Keene State – with all five scorers placing inside the top 20, led by Francis' fourth-place performance.
Both teams return to action at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Nov. 15.
