PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Olivia Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.) has been named the Plymouth State University Female Athlete of the Month for February, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard, after capping off her season with a strong performance in the pool.
Bailey claimed two event wins in the regular-season finale and medaled twice at the Little East Conference (LEC) Championships, becoming just the second women's swimmer in program history to earn multiple medals at the championship meet.
She closed out the regular season during a dual meet at Bridgewater State, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.94 – her second-fastest time of the season in the event at the time. She also took first in the 50-yard backstroke in 31.40 seconds and swam a leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which finished third in 1:55.67.
Bailey carried that momentum into the LEC Championships, where she earned a pair of bronze medals. On the opening day, she swam a season-best 2:20.14 in the prelims of the 200-yard backstroke before cutting another 3.63 seconds off in the finals for a personal-best 2:16.51, securing third place and the first LEC medal of her career.
On day two, Bailey added to her medal collection with another bronze in the 100-yard backstroke. She qualified for the A final with a personal-best 1:03.09 – nearly a full second faster than her previous best. She was even faster in the finals, posting a career-best 1:02.19 for her second straight bronze-medal performance. She also competed in the 200-yard medley relay, helping the team achieve a significant season-best time by 5.84 seconds.
On the final day of competition, Bailey came close to earning a third medal, finishing just outside the podium in the 50-yard backstroke by less than 0.90 seconds. Her 29.96 in the prelims was a personal best, and she shaved another 0.16 seconds off in the finals to place sixth in 29.80 seconds. She wrapped up the championships by contributing to the 400-yard freestyle relay, which posted a season-best time by nearly six seconds.
Bailey ended the season with PSU's top time in five individual events and was named All-LEC Third Team in both the 200-yard and 100-yard backstroke for her performances at the LEC Championships. Plymouth State finished 11th at LECs with 163 team points.
