BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman
Clare Tuohy (Sunapee, N.H.) and sophomore
Ani Flynn (Plymouth, N.H.) combined to demolish three program records to lead the Plymouth State University women's indoor track & field team at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship at the TRACK at New Balance on Sunday.
Tuohy crushed her program record in the 400 meters by more than a second. She won her heat with a time of 57.57 seconds, placing 10th overall and breaking her previous record by 1.05 seconds. She followed suit in the 200 meters, winning her heat in 25.51 seconds – 0.44 seconds faster than her school record – to place 12th overall.
Flynn was equally impressive in the high jump, where she shattered her previous mark. She cleared 1.66 meters – eclipsing her prior best of 1.59 meters – to finish second, earn All-New England honors, and move into 19th place nationally. She nearly matched her school record in the 60-meter hurdles as well, finishing just one one-hundredth of a second shy of the mark. Her time of 9.30 seconds placed 16th overall.
Not to be outdone, the 4x800-meter relay team of junior
Abby Bergeron (Essex, Vt.), freshman
Emma Talon (Southington, Conn.), freshman
Madison Geddes (Penacook, N.H.), and junior
Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) obliterated the school record by nearly 20 seconds. The foursome crossed in the line in 9:38.23 – surpassing the previous time by 18.85 seconds.
Karow also competed in the 800 meters, finishing fourth in her heat and 12th overall with a time of 2:20.59.
The Panthers accrued eight points to finish in a tie for 25th.
