PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman
Clare Tuohy (Sunapee, N.H.) has been named the Plymouth State University Female Athlete of the Month for February, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard, following a remarkable stretch of record-breaking performances for the women's indoor track & field team.
Tuohy delivered multiple podium finishes while rewriting the program record book in both the 200 meters and 400 meters throughout the month. Her dominant debut season was capped by a conference championship performance that helped her earn Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Rookie Track Athlete of the Year honors.
Tuohy opened the month at the River Hawk Invitational on Feb. 6, posting a time of 59.38 in the 400 meters. She also ran the anchor leg of the Panthers' 4x400-meter relay team that crossed the line in 4:14.92, coming just a quarter-second shy of the program record.
Tuohy followed with a strong showing at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Feb. 14. She won her preliminary heat of the 60 meters in 7.99 seconds before placing fourth in the finals with the same time, marking the first sub-eight-second performances by a Panther in the event since February 2024. She also delivered a third-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a season-best time of 26.43.
Tuohy was dynamic at the LEC Championships on Feb. 21, earning a pair of individual medals in record-breaking fashion. She captured the conference title in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 58.62 to earn All-LEC First Team honors, breaking the previous mark by 0.15 seconds. She added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters with another school-record performance of 25.95 to claim All-LEC Second Team recognition. Tuohy also anchored PSU's 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish in a school-record time of 4:08.81, shaving nearly six seconds off the previous program mark.
She closed out the season with two more record-setting performances at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Mar. 1. Tuohy won her heat and placed 10th overall in the 400 meters with a time of 57.57, breaking her own school record by more than a second. She also won her heat in the 200 meters, finishing 12th overall, in 25.51, once again lowering her program mark.
With the indoor season now complete, Tuohy and the Panthers will shift their focus to the upcoming outdoor track & field campaign, which kicks off with the SNHU Spring Open on Mar. 28.
