ONEONTA, N.Y. – Senior
Brendan Flynn (Arlington, Mass.) had two hits, and sophomore
Dylan Bausemer (Whitman, Mass.) pitched four scoreless innings in relief, but SUNY Oneonta used a three-run third inning to edge Plymouth State University, 4-2, in a non-conference game at Red Dragon Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore starter
Brady Harvie (Windham, Maine) allowed just one earned run over his four innings. The Red Dragons scored an unearned run in the first, but PSU answered in the top of the second to tie the game. Flynn's third-inning double gave PSU a 2-1 lead, but Oneonta tied it with a two-out double in the bottom half of the inning and added two more unearned runs for a 4-2 advantage. Neither team would score again.
Plymouth State drops its season opener to fall to 0-1, while Oneonta improves to 3-3.
The Basics:
- Plymouth State 2, Oneonta 4
- Plymouth State (0-1)
- Oneonta (3-3)
How it Happened:
- Harvie struck out the first two batters he faced, but a hit by pitch, stolen base, and error allowed Oneonta a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- PSU answered in the top of the second. Senior Ray Campbell (Torrington, Conn.) doubled to lead off the inning, and sophomore Dominick Wisniewski (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) tied the game with a one-out RBI single.
- Plymouth State went ahead in the third. Senior Josh Worthington (Pownal, Vt.) singled and stole second, advancing to third on an infield hit from junior Sam Salvi (Southborough, Mass.), who then stole second. Flynn doubled to center field to give PSU a 2-1 lead, but Salvi was thrown out at the plate to keep it a one-run game.
- Oneonta tied the game with a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the third and scored two more runs on an error to take a 4-2 lead.
- Freshman right fielder Owen Webber (Bow, N.H.) threw out a runner at the plate in the fourth to keep the deficit at two.
- Flynn led off the ninth with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but a double play and ground out ended the game.
By the Numbers:
- Flynn went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Campbell doubled and scored in four at bats.
- Webber recorded two outfield assists.
- Harvie gave up four hits and four runs (one earned) with four strikeouts in four innings.
