WENHAM, Mass. – Freshman
Joey Dronzank (Hebron, Conn.) hit his first career home run, but Gordon College used a big fifth inning to pull away from Plymouth State University, 16-5, in a non-conference game at J. Tec White Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers grabbed a lead in the top of the third inning, but the Fighting Scots answered in the bottom half. Dronzank's solo shot made it 2-1 in the fourth, but again Gordon responded to tie it in the bottom of the inning.
Gordon pulled away with six runs in the fifth to take control. The Panthers attempted to rally late, scoring three times in the top of the eighth, but the hosts answered with five runs in the bottom half to close out the game.
Plymouth State falls to 3-15, while Gordon improves to 10-18.

How it Happened:
- Senior Andrew Faherty (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored in the top of the third to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
- The Fighting Scots answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
- Dronzank blasted a solo homer in the fourth to put the Panthers back in front, but Gordon plated an unearned run in the bottom half to tie the game once again.
- The Fighting Scots pulled away with six runs in the fifth and added three more in the seventh.
- Junior Brayden Michaelson (Charlton, Mass.) sparked a three-run rally in the top of the eighth, drawing a walk after a lengthy at-bat before stealing second, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a ground ball. Sophomore Login Desrochers (Raymond, Maine) and freshman Jack Connelly (Reading, Mass.) both singled and scored in the inning, while freshman Owen Webber (Bow, N.H.) added an RBI single to make it 11-5.
- Gordon hit a pair of two-run homers in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
By the Numbers:
- Desrochers went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
- Faherty finished 2-for-5 with a run scored, while senior Brendan Flynn (Arlington, Mass.) also had two hits.
- Dronzank was 1-for-3 with his first career home run.
- Senior Jack Gintof (Meredith, N.H.) allowed just one run and three hits in three innings.
