BB: McIntosh resigns; Theriault named Interim Baseball Coach

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University Director of Athletics Kim Bownes announced a change in leadership for the baseball program on Tuesday, as head coach Ryan McIntosh resigned from his position. Assistant coach Andy Theriault has been named Interim Coach, effective immediately.

A three-year player at Plymouth State, McIntosh joined the coaching staff in 2015, was named interim head coach at the conclusion of the 2022 season and elevated to head coach after 2023. In three-and-a-half seasons at the helm, the Panthers compiled a 27-73 overall record, highlighted by a competitive 2024 campaign that saw the team finish just two games shy of a postseason berth despite playing home games at Robbie Mills Field in Laconia after December flooding rendered Parish Field unplayable.

"We thank Ryan for his dedication to our student-athletes and his commitment to the program over the past decade," said Bownes. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Theriault brings more than 15 years of coaching experience spanning travel, prep, collegiate, and summer baseball. Previously on staff with the Panthers from 2019-21, he served as pitching coach while assisting in recruiting and player development. His coaching resume also includes stops at Brewster Academy, Saint Joseph's College of Maine and Gordon College before returning to Plymouth in 2026.

Theriault enjoyed significant success with the Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) from 2017-20. As pitching coach in 2017, he oversaw a staff that led the league in ERA, shutouts and batting average against while winning a league-best 32 games. He later transitioned to hitting coach before being promoted to manager, leading the Rox to the league's top record in 2019 and earning All-Star Game managerial honors.

A native of Wolfeboro, Theriault was a standout multi-sport athlete at Kingswood Regional High School, earning All-State honors in both baseball and football. He continued his playing career at Castleton University before transferring to Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.

"We are confident in Andy's leadership and experience to guide our program during this transition," Bownes added. "He has a strong understanding of Plymouth State baseball and a proven track record of developing student-athletes and building competitive teams."

"My family and I are extremely excited to be rejoining the Plymouth State University community. I look forward to guiding the baseball program to the standards expected of us by all those who have worn the uniform and called PSU home. Roll State!"

Theriault will assume head coaching duties immediately as the Panthers continue their 2026 season. Plymouth State travels to the University of Southern Maine for a 3:30 p.m. matchup on Wednesday (Apr. 8).
