PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship looming, a pair of Plymouth State University wrestlers retained their regional rankings when the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) released its sixth individual rankings on Monday.
Senior
Chase Anestis (Belmont, N.H.) remained sixth at 165 pounds, while graduate student
Ty Miller (Groton, Conn.) held strong at fifth at 184 pounds.
The pair continued their run of success since the previous rankings at the beginning of the month. Miller went 3-0 at the Western New England University Quadrangular on Feb. 8, picking up a win by decision before back-to-back technical falls. In his most recent action on Feb. 19, Miller won by fall in 4:38 to help the Panthers rally from an early deficit in a dual meet at New England College.
Anestis did not compete at WNEU, but needed just 1:28 to pin his opponent at NEC. He boasts a 28-2 record for the year, which includes 13 pins for with zero against. Miller, who has a team-best 14 pins, picked up his 32nd win of the year at NEC, giving him the most wins in a season in more than 13 years.
Plymouth State heads to NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. this weekend with hopes of qualifying both for spots at the NCAA Division III National Championships later this month.
PSU's last NCAA qualifier came during the 2016-17 season, while the program hasn't had multiple qualifiers since current head coach
Ryan Carr was joined by Brent Arbogast, Todd Oljey and Ben Baker at the 1998-99 NCAA Championships.
