PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Graduate student
Ty Miller (Groton, Conn.) and senior
Chase Anestis (Belmont, N.H.) earned all-conference honors, while eight Plymouth State University wrestlers were recognized for their academic achievements as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) announced its annual postseason awards.
Miller and Anestis were both named to the All-NEWA Honorable Mention Team and were joined by seniors
Nick Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) and
Robert Tarasuk (Hampton, N.H.), junior
Nick Savariego (Hillsdale, N.J.), sophomore
Cam McMahon (East Hampstead, N.H.), and freshmen
Cooper Carlson (Merrimack, N.H.) and
Brody McDonald (Salem, N.H.) on the NEWA All-Academic Team.
Under second-year head coach
Ryan Carr, the Plymouth State posted its best finish at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship since 2011 and won nearly as many dual meets as in the previous six years combined. Carr picked up his first collegiate dual meet coaching victory when the Panthers roared past Hunter College on Jan. 11.
Ty Miller:
- Standing 6-0 and wrestling at 184 pounds, Miller posted a 35-11 record with 16 pins.
- He was a four-time place finisher, taking third at the Ted Reese Invitational, fourth at the Roger Williams Invitational, fifth at the Northeast Regional Championship, and sixth at the Doug Parker Invitational.
- Miller earned a marquee win over No. 5-ranked Trent Furman of NYU, winning by fall in just 28 seconds on Jan. 11.
- He concluded his career with an 81-47 record and 36 pins.
Chase Anestis:
- Standing 5-8 and competing at 165 pounds, Anestis finished the year with a 31-4 record and 14 pins.
- A four-time place finisher, he won the Williams Open, finished second at the Ted Reese Invitational, took sixth at the Roger Williams Invitational, and placed fourth at the Northeast Regional Championships, falling just one spot shy of NCAA qualification.
- Anestis bumped up two weight classes to win by decision in a Senior Day dual meet against Norwich.
- He wrapped up his career with a 70-22 mark, 24 pins, and no pins against.
