PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman middle hitter
Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) has been recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) for the third straight week, the league announced Monday.
McKay was named LEC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week once again following her standout performances in wins over VTSU Lyndon and Rhode Island College.
She hit .314 while averaging 3.14 kills per set in the 2-0 week. Against RIC on Saturday, McKay tallied 11 kills (.276) and seven blocks to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 win in their conference opener. In Wednesday's sweep of the Hornets, she added 11 kills (.364) along with two aces, two blocks, and three digs.
The strong week reinforced McKay's place among the conference's elite. She leads the LEC in solo blocks (23), ranks third in total blocks (41), fourth in kills (113) and points (161), fifth in points per set (3.35), sixth in attack percentage (.277), ninth in block assists (18), and 10th in kills per set (2.35).
Plymouth State puts its eight-match winning streak on the line at Rivier on Wednesday (Oct. 1), before returning to conference play at WestConn on Saturday (Oct. 4).
