BETTE TIRRELL DE ROCHER ('61): Although Plymouth Teachers University didn't have a women's golf team while she was a student, Bette Tirrell De Rocher made quite a name for herself on the state's golf courses. A native of Nashua, Tirrell De Rocher won the prestigious New Hampshire State Championship in the summer before her junior year at PTC, and went on to become the only person to win the career triple crown of women's golf.

Bette Tirrell first made headlines in 1956, when she captured the Junior Women's Championship at the prestigious New Hampshire Women's Golf Tournament. Then in August of 1959, just weeks before starting her junior year at PTC, she became the youngest champion in the history of the N.H. Women's Golf Association Tournament. She won the match-play round on the 16th hole, but completed the final two holes and broke the women's amateur record for the Keene Country Club (one-under-par 75). Tirrell De Rocher was also a five-time runner-up for the state title, including 1958, the year before she won it.

A long-time member of Derryfield Country Club, Bette De Rocher shot a five-over-par 82 to capture top honors at the 1989 New Hampshire Women's Golf Seniors Championship at Tory Pines. This earned her the unique distinction of being the only woman to win the New Hampshire Women's Golf Association's Junior Championship, Senior Championship, and State Championship. She is a former President of the N.H. Women's Golf Association (‘69-'71), and has been a member of the organization for nearly 50 years.
