DOUG KARWOSKI ('85): Doug Karwoski played key roles on both of Plymouth State College’s national championship men’s ski teams. He was the top skier on the 1981 national championships, winning the combined alpine national individual title at Marquette, Michigan. Then in 1985, he served as an assistant coach to Tom Quimby as the Panther skiers won a second National Collegiate Ski Association crown at McCall, Idaho.
Karwoski was also a standout on the soccer field, helping to anchor a staunch Panther defense on Coach Lutter’s outstanding PSC teams of the early 1980s. From 1980-93, the Panthers compiled an overall record of 60-13-5, and went to three NCAA Division III tournaments. The 1983 Panthers advanced to the Final Four in North Carolina, where PSC dropped an overtime shootout decision to North Carolina-Greensboro in a national semifinal.
Besides serving as an assistant men’s ski coach, Karwoski also assisted Phil Rowe with the 1985 PSC women’s soccer team, which compiled a record of 8-5-3.
After leaving PSC, the Wilmington, VT., native headed west to Lake Tahoe, California, where he would serve as head ski coach for the Heavenly Valley ski team.
