SALLY GUERETTE ('64): Sally Guerette left her mark on women’s athletics at Plymouth Teachers College at a time when women’s sports had a lower profile than they do today. The Nashua N.H., native played basketball, field hockey, and softball as a PSC undergrad, even though some of those programs were in a club status during those days.
But it was on the tennis courts that Guerette really stood out, earning the top singles designation on teams which were among the regions finest.
After graduating from the Home of the Panthers, Guerette went on to teach and coach at Milford and Nashua High Schools. Her four-year basketball coaching record at those two schools was 39-6.
Following graduate study at Cortland State and the University of Iowa, Guerette embarked on a career in coaching and athletic administration at the University of Vermont. She coached the Catamount tennis team for three years and also won 128 games during her 12-year tenure as UVM softball coach, a tenure that included nine straight winning seasons.
Guerette is currently Assistant Athletic Director in charge of NCAA compliance for both men’s and women’s sports at UVM. She remains athletically active and is an avid golfer. In fact she scored two holes-in-one in 1990, holing out on a 140-yard par 3 in Arizona, and an 86-yard par 3 in Hawaii.
