DEAN PRENTISS ('91) A former catcher/designated hitter for the Plymouth State baseball team from 1984-87, Dean Prentiss was a left-handed clean-up hitter who set numerous school batting records.  He earned All-New England and All-Northeast honors in 1985, just the second player in school history to earn the distinction.  He established PSU single season and career home runs records, and led the nation in batting average in 1985 with a school-record .512 mark, cracking 43 hits in 84 at bats.

A native of Drewsville, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional H.S., Prentiss could hit for power and for average.  He blasted 20 doubles and a then school-record 17 home runs over a three-year stretch, and he once had seven hits in a doubleheader.  Prentiss set the Panther single-season home run record with nine blasts in 1987, a mark he still shares with three other hitters, and he is still tied for second on the all-time home run list.

Prentiss helped Plymouth State to a record of 57-34 from 1985-87 under coach Dennis McManus, with three straight ECAC post-season berths.  His career batting average of .365 is still the 13th-highest in the program’s 63-year history, and fifth-best among those batters with at least 100 hits.
